Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic and self-motivated paralegal to join our Community Revitalization Project team. If you are passionate about public interest law and committed to serving low-income communities, we want to hear from you! This full-time position offers the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and communities.

As a paralegal, you will work closely with attorneys to provide essential legal support to individuals and community groups in areas such as affordable housing, environmental justice, and community development. You will assist with legal research, document preparation, client outreach, and case management, while also helping to educate and empower communities.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist clients and community groups under attorney supervision, focusing on civil legal areas such as housing, environmental justice, and community development.
Conduct outreach and community legal education, providing clients and community groups with vital information and building positive relationships.
Collaborate with attorneys and other advocates to support clients and community groups in their efforts to improve their circumstances.
Conduct client intake by answering calls, performing initial screenings, and referring clients to appropriate resources when necessary.
Investigate and develop cases, conduct interviews, and support attorneys in preparing legal documents, including pleadings, discovery, and letters.
File legal papers via e-filing and interact with court staff, opposing counsel, and clients.
Maintain accurate and well-organized client files, ensuring deadlines and calendaring events are met.
Translate for clients when necessary (if applicable).
Attend staff meetings and in-house training programs to continue developing legal skills.
Report on caseloads and advocacy efforts regularly to the supervising attorney or director.
Travel as needed to attend meetings or assist clients and community groups.
Qualifications:

Associate's Degree and paralegal certification preferred.
At least two years of prior paralegal experience preferred.
Experience working with low-income communities or in community organizing is a plus.
Fluent in Spanish (both written and verbal) is preferred, but not required.
Detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated with strong communication skills.
Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality while exercising good judgment.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and comfortable using electronic case management systems.
Willingness to adapt to a flexible work schedule, including evening and weekend hours when necessary.
Occasional travel within the service area is required.
