Position: Executive Director
Description:
The Executive Director (ED) will lead the Houston Humane Society during an exciting time of transformation and growth. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the ED will oversee strategy, fundraising, operations, and culture across the organization.\r\rThis leader is responsible for stewarding the organization's mission, expanding visibility, and empowering staff through a renewed focus on operational efficiency, cross-departmental cohesion, and donor engagement. Key responsibilities include providing visionary leadership, serving as the primary external face of HHS, collaborating with the Board on strategic direction, supporting and developing a leadership team, overseeing operational excellence, ensuring robust financial health, helping to lead fundraising strategy, championing internal communication and culture, spearheading capital development, and representing the organization with integrity, humility, and purpose.
Requirements: 5+ years of progressive senior leadership experience. Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree is a plus. Inherent passion for animal welfare and desire to be hands-on in animal care.\r\rExperience overseeing organizational budgets over $5M; experience with budgets over $10M is a plus. Experience managing complex, high-impact organizations providing varied programs and services. Strong change management capabilities.\r\rInspirational, empowering, and collaborative leadership style with the ability to drive professional development among the team. Knowledge of or willingness to learn animal shelter operations, clinic management, and related fields. Comfort with capital projects, program growth, and staff development.\r\rDemonstrated success in securing major gifts and cultivating donor relationships. Charismatic public speaker and experienced organizational ambassador. Experience working with or alongside a Board of Directors.\r\rAppreciation for the emotional complexity of shelter work and importance of staff morale. Leads emergency response during critical incidents. Culturally competent and respectful of diverse backgrounds.
Benefits: Competitive base salary range of $180,000 - $215,000 (DOE).
