Overview: The Chief of Staff takes charge of all day-to-day aspects of the Founder’s DC office. The Chief of Staff works closely with the Founder, for day-to-day executive support, and works at the direction of the Chief Operating Officer on current business operations. The ideal candidate adeptly manages the executive office, ensures fluid internal and external communication, and spearheads operational projects, all while maintaining a keen ability to prioritize the Founder's time and address complex inquiries with precision.
Key Responsibilities: - Daily Management: Lead administrator of the DC office, optimizing workload (including managing the Founder’s calendar), facilitating information flow. Prepare materials for meetings and speaking engagements, able to act as the Founder's delegate in meetings and external engagements, ensuring alignment with SDSC's strategic goals.
- Operational Excellence: Collaborate with senior leadership to drive key initiatives, uphold operational standards, and enhance team productivity. Develop and monitor operational plans, track objectives, and tackle recruitment, finance, HR, and administrative functions.
- Strategic Support: Assist the Founder in execution of special projects and strategic plans, monitor progress, and identify growth opportunities through thorough research and analysis.
- Digital Proficiency: While not a coder, the Chief of Staff thrives in a technical environment, requiring close interaction with software development. Experience with web account management, AWS, and overseeing distributed teams is highly valued.
- Problem-Solving: This role requires a proactive approach to identify and address emerging organizational challenges, leveraging both internal and external resources to find innovative solutions.

Position Requirements: - Presence: Up to 40% in-office presence in Washington DC, with local residence.
- Experience: At least 2 years in roles related to operations, executive support, or leadership. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required; an MBA or Master's in a scientific/technical discipline is preferred.
- Skills: Honesty and trustworthiness above all. Exceptional emotional intelligence, relationship-building, and communication skills. Proven ability to identify strategic implications, juggle multiple projects, and handle both high-level and important administrative tasks.
- Desirable: 5-7 years in a similar role, with experience in healthcare, technology, or research sectors. Program management or consulting background is advantageous.
